An individual is obese when their body mass index (BMI) is 30 or high. The body mass index is intended by dividing your weight in kilograms by your height in meters squared. If the BMI- Body Mass Index is between 25 and 30, the person is overweight and if it is above 30, the person is obese.

30% of the world’s population is moreover obese or overweight and the highest attentiveness of such people live in the India, United States and China which together account for 15% of the world’s obese population. In just over three decades, Worldwide Obesity has doubled.

Obesity

According to a study, in 2014, more than 1.9 billion adults were overweight and out of these, over a shocking 600 million were obese! Startling as it may sound, while many parts of the world fight hunger and starvation, in reality, obesity is as much or even a bigger problem as there are more people dying due to obesity and overweight problems than due to those being underweight!

Childhood obesity is increasing and how! 41 million children under the age of 5 were either obese or overweight in 2014, with the numbers only increasing exponentially. Obesity is an endemic despite being mainly preventable. The rapidity with which the world is becoming obese is surprising.
